Fair Value Discounts now covers more than stocks

Set your own fair value on crypto, precious metals, collectible cards, property and other assets on the Portfolio page, and the Fair Value Discounts widget shows how far each sits from it.

Fair Value Discounts compared each stock's discounted-cash-flow fair value with its share price, and nothing else. Its cog menu now has Data flowing in, where you tick the asset classes to include alongside stocks: crypto, precious metals, collectible cards, and property, pensions, bonds and other assets. Cash isn't offered, because a savings balance has no fair value to speak of.

Nothing you've built changes. A Fair Value Discounts widget already on your dashboard has Stocks & funds ticked, and looks and filters exactly as it did.

The fair value is yours, not ours

Stocks come with a calculated fair value. Nothing else you own does, and we won't invent one. So for every other class the fair value is a figure you type in: on the Portfolio page, each of those rows has a Set fair value button. It is your own estimate of what the whole holding should be worth, and the widget sets it against what the holding is worth today. It isn't a recommendation.

Whole holdings, not single units

For these rows both figures are for the whole holding: all the copies of a card, the full weight of a gold bar, the entire property. The card says Value where a stock's says Price. Property is compared at the value you entered, before its mortgage, as on the Balance Sheet.

No estimate, no gap

A row you haven't set a fair value for shows No Data, and so does one that can't be priced yet, rather than a made-up discount. An estimate typed in under a different currency to your portfolio currency is flagged and not compared, because converting it at today's rate would move it with the exchange rate.

The same filters

Discounts only and Minimum discount apply across every class you've ticked. Only the stock rows follow the widget's stock filter; your other assets always list everything you've entered.
