Search for the share or fund, then record each purchase as its own buy lot: the total you paid, the number of shares and the date. The total is typed in the stock's own currency — dollars for a US share — and the app converts it to yours at the exchange rate on that date. There's no separate fee box, so include dealing charges and stamp duty in the total if you want them in your cost basis. If you have only one of the two numbers, enter it with the date and Use EOD close fills in the other from that day's closing price.

The date matters more than it looks. The app books a holding's dividends from its purchase dates — only shares held before each ex-dividend date count — so a purchase dated today earns none of last year's. And the cost basis is the average cost of every purchase: each new one moves it, and a sale takes shares out at that average without changing it. The free plan holds up to ten stocks.

Record purchases as they happened, not as one total, and the dividends take care of themselves.

  1. On Portfolio, choose Add an asset, then Stocks, ETFs & funds, then Search & add. Open Search & add →
  2. Search by ticker or company name — London listings end in .L, as in VUSA.L — and pick the listing you actually hold.
  3. Under Purchased, enter Total Cost, No of Shares and Date Added for your first purchase. Use EOD close if you only have one of the two numbers.
  4. Press + to add a row for each further purchase, rather than adding them together into one.
  5. Press Add, then check the holding's Value and Gain on Portfolio against your broker's figures.

Purchases in, cost basis out

The worked example is two purchases of the same share. Change them, or add a sale.

Shares bought
150
Total paid
1,650.00
Average cost per share
11.00
Cost basis
1,650.00

Your cost basis is 1,650.00 across 150 shares — 11.00 a share. It's what the app subtracts from today's value to show your gain, and each new purchase moves the average.
