GLOSSARY

Asset Sale Gain/Loss

Portfolio Metrics

IN PLAIN ENGLISH

How much you made or lost on something you've sold, going by the two prices you entered.

FULL DEFINITION

What a card, metal or other asset you sold fetched, less what you paid for it.

EXAMPLE

A card you bought for £45 and sold for £60: 60 − 45 = +£15, which is +33.3% of what you paid.

HOW IT'S CALCULATED

Gain/Loss = what it fetched − what you paid, for all the copies or items in that row; % = Gain/Loss ÷ what you paid × 100. Both prices must be in your portfolio currency: one entered while your portfolio was in another currency is shown as it was entered and left out of the gain, not converted at today's exchange rate. A sold asset with only one of the two prices has no gain to show. Sold assets are no longer part of your totals, charts or net worth, and the money isn't added to your cash — update the account you paid it into. This covers cards, metals and hand-entered assets; for shares see Realised Gains.
