GLOSSARY

Price Move Over a Period

Portfolio Metrics

IN PLAIN ENGLISH

A quick read on recent and longer-term direction — from one week to ten years — for the price of a card printing or a metal. It describes the past, not what happens next.

FULL DEFINITION

How far a price rose or fell over a window of time.

EXAMPLE

A card at $480 today and $435 a month ago: (480 ÷ 435 − 1) × 100 = +10.3% over 1 month.

HOW IT'S CALCULATED

Move = (latest price ÷ the price on the window's first day − 1) × 100, in US dollars, so it is the market moving and never the exchange rate. The window is counted back from the most recent price in the history we hold, and its first-day price is the last price on or before that day (the history is daily for three months, weekly before). A window the history doesn't reach back to is left out, never measured from a later start. Prices are TickerMint's TCGplayer market prices for cards and Yahoo Finance's front-month futures for metals. For a coin, the 24 hour, 7 day, 30 day and 1 year changes are CoinGecko's own figures, not worked out by the app.
